Role Play on XP Coin Rust Server

Sheriff, shopkeeper, pirate and farmer are good examples of “roles” you can “play” within the world of Rust.

Roleplaying (RP) adds extra spice into the game because PvP does not mean kill on sight (KOS), unless you are in a war situation.

Role players engage in conversation first, working out if the other player is friendly or not. Usually a 20 second conversation is the minimum amount of time needed to play out a scenario.

Town Rules & Role Play

Most role players are interested in building a town with people they play with on a regular basis. Large towns may be home to a number of different clans who each have their own clan rules. These towns also need a set of town rules and a sheriff to help keep law and order. Trials may be needed and punishments for crimes such as KOS may include exile from the town or even worse!

Conflict Resolution Events

Don’t let conflicts get out of hand. Good role players use these incidents as opportunities to host conflict resolution events in or outside of town.

Outside Town Events

Event Idea 1, Rocket Siege: Set an amount of preparation time (24 hours) to build 2 towers within rocket distance from each other, and announce the event time to be streamed live by a judge, sheriff or admin.

Event Idea 2. As 1 above but with 2 teams of 5-10 players. Adjust the preparation time as required.

Inside Town Events

Event Idea 3, Melee dual: Build a cage/arena and fight to the death. Make it a best out of 5 (first to 3) if you wish.

Event Idea 4: As 3 above but with up to 10 players in a cage/arena!

Setting firm rules and resolution events can help your RP server thrive BUT without rules, towns often descend into chaos.

Role Playing as a Bandit

Saying “You are going to die” is not RP and is considered KOS.

To role play a bandit you should say something like “Give me all of your stuff or I will kill you.” You must give your victim a chance to comply, MINIMUM 20 seconds, and if you start counting down you MUST finish the countdown to zero!

If your target is running you must declare a robbery – telling them to “Stop” or saying “I want to speak to you” is NOT enough. You must also give them enough time to stop or respond so make sure you are in audio range before attacking.

You CAN’T just say “Robbery” and murder them. They must either; (1) refuse, (2) attack you, or (3) try to run. Then you may engage in combat.

If they DO give you stuff and you attempt to kill them after, then that is KOS.

Personal Protection Rule for Role Players

If you approach someone or their base and they say “Don’t come any closer or I’ll shoot you” you must attempt to get away. If you continue to follow them or do not leave their base, they are free to engage you after the 20 second rule.

If they threaten your life first, you are free to engage them upon a threat of death (I’ll kill you/shoot you).

Witness to a Raid or Banditry

If you witness any form of aggression, such as raiding or banditry, then you are free to engage in combat.

If you are raiding, it doesn’t give you permission to shoot a passer-by wandering through that area.

If they are coming directly towards the base you’re raiding with their weapons drawn, then you may engage.

If they running by the base you’re raiding and not directly towards it, then you cannot engage without further role play!

If they are hanging around the area but not coming close, you must ask them to leave before firing a warning shot.

If you run into a raid/war zone, then this is not permission to be killed, but be warned. If you get too close during a fight you may get shot.  If you do not want to be killed, stay out of active raid zones.

Self Defense Rule

If you are being robbed, you may defend yourself and kill your aggressor after 20 seconds or within the 20 seconds if you verbally react to the robbery. This also applies to being raided.

Going AFK and being unable to respond to role play is NOT considered KOS.

Community Rules

Different towns and servers will have different rules and punishments. It’s up to each community to work it out for themselves. There may be squabbles and fights but a lot of fun to be had when you Role Play on XP Coin Rust Server.
