Thanks to English Teacher Online, even when school is cancelled we’ve got some fun ideas to keep you busy and survive the flood. School is not cancelled FOREVER, so here’s an update to help Grade 5 stay on track for a top grade.
Week 5: Projects and End of E.V. 1
I have assessed your EV1 projects based on your participation in class up to Thursday the 30th of November. No one will lose any marks due to the floods.
Week 5 spelling test was cancelled and is now part of the week 7 spelling test.
Week 6: Mystery of the Mary Celeste
We only had one day of school, reading the story on Macmillan page 50-51. You got the week 6 spelling words and an assignment to write a skit, explaining what you think happened to the crew of the Mary Celeste.
If you have finished that assignment, please hand it in for extra credit on Tuesday the 12th of December. We can perform the skit during week 7 or 8.
You can find more information about the Mary Celeste here.
Week 7: Famous People
If you want to get ahead for week 7, you may research a famous person from history or TV. Choose someone you admire and would like to learn about.
Try Googling famous people for kids and bring your research to school on Tuesday the 12th of December.
Week 7 Spelling Words
Your week 7 spelling test will be a mix of words from weeks 5, 6 and 7.
It’s important to study all the words as they may appear in your mid-term test too!
Here are your week 7 spelling words to help you get a head start.

I really like Warren Buffett because he has a unique way of finding money and doing business. He does not have to do hard work but he gets a lot amount of money. The way that he chose is playing stocks, another thing that he is famous for is The Buffett Foundation. This foundation donates his money that he gets to poor people. You’ve done some really great work this year Nahm. When are you going to start making English language videos?
I really liked studying about Thomas Edison because I found out that he was a hyperactive child. He attended school for only a few months and then was taught by his mother at home. When he grew up, he created many objects that we use in our day life such as lamps.
Yes, he’s an interesting character. I’m glad you enjoyed learning about his life. Well done Beam!
